Baba Ramdev flown to Dehradun after midnight detention
- Baba Ramdev: “A swami who teaches yoga to the country should not teach us political asanas (poses)” said Kapil Sibal, one of the two senior ministers who was deputed to make peace for the government with Baba Ramdev.
- Baba Ramdev spent last night in the protection of the Delhi Police, was flown out of Delhi this morning from the Palam airport and has landed in Dehradun. He is expected to reach his ashram in Haridwar by early afternoon.
- The BJP has swiftly muscled into the political situation arising out of Baba Ramdev’s removal from the Ramila Grounds in Delhi and his subsequent externment. Party chief Nitin Gadkari has demanded an apology from the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi and said that top BJP leaders will "sit at Rajghat 7 pm onwards for a satyagraha."
- Baba Ramdev: Digvijaya Singh is not among those astounded by Baba Ramdev's contentious eviction from Delhi where he was on a hunger strike against corruption in the government. "He is a thug who is misleading the nation" said Mr Singh, who is General Secretary of the Congress.
- Baba Ramdev asked his followers to mount a countrywide peaceful agitation to protest the sudden midnight police "brutality" at the Ramlila Maidan but kept on appealing them not to retaliate violently, a close aide of the yoga guru said today.
- As the followers of Baba Ramdev were evicted from Ramlila Maidan, they gathered at the Jantar Mantar but here also they were prevented from staging protest by the police.
- The fragile coalition between civil society activists and the government has come completely undone over yoga icon Baba Ramdev's eviction and police action against thousands of his supporters late last night in Delhi.
- There was high drama at the Ramlila Ground in New Delhi after a defiant Baba Ramdev refused to call off his fast despite the government's best efforts. The government then hardened its stand and asked the yoga icon to leave Delhi.
- What began as a peaceful process of negotiations between the Government and yoga icon Baba Ramdev has now broken out into a hostile exchange between both sides. Each side is now accusing the other of reneging on the agreements reached in discussions over the last two days.
He also appealed the people of Delhi to come in large numbers to the protest venue.
A section of supporters threw pots, tripods and mike stands on cops to prevent them from coming close to the stage. The crowd dispersed from the stage after police fired tear gas shells. People were seen vacating the dais and the surrounding area after tear gas enveloped the whole area.

The supporters also claimed that Baba alongwith Acharya Bala Krishnan and Jaydeep Arya, head of Bharat Swabhiman Manch, were arrested.
They also said Swami Sampoornanand, who is second in command, has taken charge of the agitation and has asked people to gather at Jantar Mantar. Banners were torn and mattresses and furniture lay all over the Ramlila Maidan that resembled a war zone after the police action.
The Ramlila ground was booked for 20 days by Baba Ramdev for yoga camp but was turned as the venue for his "Satyagraha" movement.
Organisers were asking people not to leave the pandal and continue the protest. Some of them, associated with Baba's movement, contacted their associates in respective states to protest against police action in the morning.
Large number of people were leaving the spot, some were seen arguing with the policemen that why they have taken such an action when their protest was peaceful.
Some of the supporters refused to leave the venue saying they will not move till they get a direction to do so from Baba.
Proof Baba Ramdev's assets are ill-gotten: Anna Hazare
Anna Hazare, the 71-year-old Gandhian has said the Janlokpal movement will support Baba Ramdev and his agitation as long as his credentials remain as strong as they are now.
His comments have come as many, including some who support Anna Hazare, have characterized the Baba as someone on the political right -- alongside the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (National Volunteer Brigade) or RSS. RSS is considered the 'guiding force' behind the opposition Bhartiya Janata Party or BJP. As a result, many believe that by aligning too closely with the Yogi, Anna Hazare risks losing his political impartiality.
However, Hazare said he did not think Baba Ramdev is associated with any political party. He reiterated that the top leadership of the movement will remain closed to those with overt political affiliations.
"Those who have been stamped with the identity of a political party or who are office-bearers of a political party will not be part of the [leadership] of the party," Hazare said.
Hazare and the broader India Against Corruption umbrella organization have been careful to keep BJP and other opposition leaders at a safe distance. The parties, on the other hand, are eager to partake of the movement's popularity with the middle-class -- arguably much higher than that of any mainstream political party.
Hazare was also asked whether he felt that Baba Ramdev was a suitable candidate to lead an agitation against black-money as the Yogi is the head of a large educational, training and religious organization with assets of more than Rs 1,000 crore.
"If it comes to our notice that some of this money is number 2 [unaccounted for], then we will rethink our support to him," Hazare said, "It is not fair to make unfounded allegations."
Baba Ramdev's campaign is seen as the launching pad for a new political party that will fight the 2014 general elections with the agenda of cleaning up the politics of the country and restoring 'self-respect' in India. Baba Ramdev expressed his reservations on whether the upcoming Lokpal should have the right to check if the PM was corrupt or not -- pointing out that it may distract the Prime Minister. The remark was seized upon by the Government to prove that the civil society leaders are not unified in their demands from the bill.
"Ramdev, who fancies the Prime Minister's position, has opposed including the PM's position within the ambit of the upcoming corruption ombudsman - Lokpal." Both the assertions made above are false. Ramdevji has declared many times that he will never take any political post. He also did not say that PM should not be under the Lokpal.Listen to what he said in this video.
