CCTV shows youth beaten to death in Coimbatore


Coimbatore: A young man was fatally beaten up in broad daylight in Coimbatore by four drunken men on July 10. The gang threw the man, identified as 28-year-old Santosh Kumar, on the ground and then repeatedly kicked and punched him. They also hit the man with a huge stone injuring him fatally.
Though Santosh, a painter by profession, was being beaten up near a traffic signal at 2 pm and several people were nearby, but no one came forward to help him.
Santosh was admitted to the government hospital and he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
The entire incident happened near a police station and was captured by a CCTV. Police have arrested the four men who had beaten Santosh.
"The incident happened 250 meters away from the police station. All this happened in a liquor shop and the people were drunk. They all were of the same age and all have been booked for murder. It is because of CCTV footage the four men - Krishnan, Ganeshan, Murugan and ramachandran - were arrested," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime & Traffic Tr S Nizamuddin.
Nizamuddin denied the allegations that the police were late in reaching the victim adding that officials reached withing five minutes after the incident happened.
He also blamed the public for not helping Santosh.
The video shows a man with Santosh and soon three men on a motorcycle come to the spot. The motorcycle hit the duo and all of them fall down.
Soon the person with Santosh and the three men, who came on the motorcycle, start beating him. One of the man then picked up a huge stone and threw it on Santosh who was lying on the road.
